What kind of wedding photographer am I?

Your choice of photographer for your wedding day is very important because once the day is done, you will be left with your memories and the photos only. The best way to choose your photographer is to firstly decide between yourselves exactly what kind of pictures you want to look at for the next thirty years.
It might be easiest if I explain first of all why I am not a 'typical' wedding photographer. Your wedding day is probably going to be the most important day of your lives so far and I feel the photographs that you have of that day should be as personal and as meaningful as the day itself. 'Typical' wedding photography has become an almost automatic series of photographs that you can tick off as you go. If you looked at that photographers last ten weddings you would see ten sets of almost identical pictures with only the people being different - that doesn't sound very personal to me. I like to record all those dozens of moments that happen through the day that when put together really give you a true feeling of the day. In twenty -five years I want you to be able to pick up your pictures and be taken right back there. It is day full of happiness and fun and more than anything that's I want to capture.
I think the photographer should be the least important person during the day and not someone centre stage directing all the shots . For the most part of the day I am just moving around all the time, watching, working to get the best pictures I can of you all without butting in or interrupting. Often times at weddings, people will say to me how nice it has been that I haven't been running around 'demanding' pictures all day. They also tell me that the set colour shots at weddings can take up to an hour and a half to be shot!...this seems madness to me. This is the most important day of your lives, you will have worked so hard and the time has come to really enjoy the day with all your friends and family, you should be running around, talking, seeing all the people you want to, not stuck in front of an oak tree all day!
I hope the pictures that you have seen here prove the point that the best pictures of people are always the natural, unposed ones. They are the most honest and they give so much more a true feeling of the subjects. Even though of course the bride and groom are the two most important people there on the day, they are surrounded by all the most important people in the world to them and very much part of what I do is to include everyone else.
As I will say at other times, its all about you getting exactly what you want. If you want all colour, all black and white or a mix of the two - it is all entirely up to you. It should also be said that even though I am London based I am available to work anywhere.

Can we have traditional set-colour group shots?

Absolutely, of course you can. My only objection to them is the time they take. I am used to working quickly and with proper planning between us with a full list of exactly what pictures you want there is no reason why the day need to stop for 90 minutes for them to be taken. For 'typical' photographers, these set shots represent at least 75% of the album they will give you so they have to really take their time. Doing it my way you get the same pictures in half the time and everyone can get on with doing what they came to do - celebrate.

Why do I like to start before the ceremony?

One thing that is really true about getting married is that it represents a real milestone in all our lives. I like to start the day with the bride getting prepared because it is a very poignant time for her. In an hours time she will be married and the photos of her preparation have a great power to them. Also I am trying to provide a true picture of the complete day and these pictures start the album perfectly.

    How does it all work?

The surest way to get what you want is to plan the day properly together beforehand. Together we can decide exactly what you want in terms of colour, black and white. Say for example we can say the bride shots are black and white, set shots colour and then everything else a mix of the two. Also depending on the size of the wedding we agree the number of rolls I will shoot - say for example 14 rolls. When I have shot that amount I will come to you and tell you. I will always carry extra film with me so if you feel you want me to shoot some more I can but if you are happy then we can stop there.

    Do we get an album?

Because I am not shooting 'typical' shots - I don't give you an album all made up straight away after the wedding. I go through all the pictures and fillet those that aren't worth showing you and once that is done I give all the rest to you because I think you should decide what are the most important pictures not me. All the pictures will come to you either black and white or colour as 'machine prints'. These prints are exactly like what you might get from somewhere like 'snappy snaps'. They can be glossy, pearl or matt and they all come with borders. You can use these pictures directly for the album or you can use them as a guide to ordering a smaller amount of reprints for the book. The reprints can be any size you want and they can be hand printed too so they will look stunning. I also offer a digital reprint service of the highest quality and I can archive all your pictures to cd. If you want help with the album or if you would like me to do it for you with your choices - I can do that for you.
